Former Deputy Health Minister of Ukraine, 10 Doctors Detained on Suspicion of Violating Human Organ Transplantation Law

Former Deputy Health Minister and ten doctors have been detained on suspicion of violating the law on human organ transplantation. The ex-deputy minister in question is Mykhailo Zagreiichuk, according to Ukrainian media.

They are accused of organizing a scheme for the "illegal removal of anatomical materials from people in helpless states and other dependencies on the offenders for further transplantation." All eleven medical professionals have been charged.

According to sources familiar with the case, the investigation suspects that the group of doctors was selling spots on the transplantation waiting list, with transplant coordinators receiving payments for manipulating the queue. This was allegedly done to ensure that the Heart Institute received organs for transplants.
