No wonder the Egyptians got so annoyed over Israel's seizure of the Rafah crossing. They have been at least passively allowing these lines of communication to Hamas all along. This also demonstrates why Rafah and the crossing are legitimate military targets, although Noam also adds that Hamas has used the city as the base of military strikes on IDF units as well.
