Georgia Legislative Committee Wonders: Why Did Wade Get Paid So Much More Than Staff ADAs?

Special prosecutor Nathan Wade was a central player in the Georgia prosecution against former President Donald Trump and paid handsomely compared to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ assistant DAs, a lawyer testified Wednesday to a state Senate committee scrutinizing the election subversion charges against the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination. ...

Under the current arrangement, Mr. Wade has been paid more than a typical assistant DA and could maintain his private practice.

“That’s a big issue,” Ms. Merchant said.

Ms. Merchant said assistant DAs make about $175,000 per year, while published reports say Mr. Wade has been paid at least $650,000 for his work on the case.

To be clear, the $650,000 figure represents two years of billing, not one. But that still leaves Wade's compensation at almost twice the amount paid in salary to in-house assistant DAs. Even considering non-cash benefits paid to in-house prosecutors, it's costing Fulton County taxpayers a lot more money to have Wade prosecuting the case rather than Fani Willis or one of her ADAs.

That expense might be justifiable if Wade was an expert in prosecuting RICO cases or complex felony indictments. However, Wade not only hasn't even prosecuted a RICO case, he's never been involved in a felony case at all before Georgia v Trump et al. That's plenty of reason to suspect that Willis set this up to benefit herself and her sexual partner at the expense of Fulton County taxpayers.
