Hours after the Justice Department asked the high court to intervene, the court blocked the Texas immigration law from going into effect until next week. The high court also requested a response from the state by Monday.

SCOTUS giveth, SCOTUS taketh away ... *sigh*.

FWIW, I've always been skeptical that this Texas law won't run afoul of the Supremacy Clause. I'm not at all surprised about a temporary stay. However, where are all the progressives who were shrieking about temporary stays and the "shadow docket" not all that long ago?
