MSNBC Legal Analyst: First Amendment Makes US 'Vulnerable,' Time for 'Common Sense' Speech Restrictions

MSNBC legal analyst Barbara McQuade argued Monday that the United States’ “deep commitment to free speech” makes Americans uniquely susceptible to disinformation campaigns.

McQuade, a University of Michigan law professor, went on “The Rachel Maddow Show” to promote her new book, “Attack from Within: How Disinformation is Sabotaging America.” She said her “goal” with the book was to spark a “national conversation about truth and our commitment to it.” ....

“We need to have a conversation and common-sense solutions to these things,” she said. “Instead, we throw out terms like ‘censorship,’ call each other names, use labels and retreat to our opposite sides. We need to be pragmatic and come up with real solutions.”

So she wants us to have a national conversation about censorship, but wants to start it off by asking us not to mention censorship? McQuade doesn't want a "conversation"; she wants to stop conversations she doesn't like. And this is all the more remarkable given what we all just experienced with actual government-pushed censorship on topics like the origin of COVID, efficacy of its vaccines, and the Hunter Biden laptop story. And it's also supremely laughable considering MSNBC's declaration last week that the principles explicitly expressed in the Declaration of Independence about the nature of rights are somehow examples of "Christian nationalism."

If McQuade wants "common sense" speech restrictions, can we start by restricting her speech? And by taking MSNBC off the air? If not, why not?
