'It's a Black Thing'?

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ father testified on Friday that keeping cash is a cultural norm for black people. ...

“I’m not trying to be racist, okay? But it’s a black thing,” Willis’ father responded to an inquiry about his daughter keeping cash on Friday.

“I was trained and most black folks, they hide cash or they keep cash,” he added. “You always keep some cash.”

He then described an instance where he experienced alleged racism in Massachusetts where someone would not accept his payment until he presented cash.

Perhaps it is, but this seems entirely irrelevant to the disqualification. It doesn't matter why Fani Willis keeps large sums of cash around, or even if she really does or not. What matters is that she hired Wade and that he began to pay for her travel -- and she has no records showing any reimbursement. Even more to the point, there's already one witness who says that Willis' filing that claimed the relationships started after hiring Wade is false, and that their romantic relationship began three years earlier.

I'm a bit surprised that Judge Scott McAfee allowed Willis' father to testify at all, but I have assumed that he wanted to give Willis the greatest possible leeway before taking the extraordinary step of disqualifying her and her office.
