Here We Go Again: Biden Pushes 6-Week Cease-Fire in Gaza

President Biden sent the C.I.A. director, William J. Burns, to Cairo for the talks, which aim to secure the release of hostages from Gaza in exchange for a pause in fighting. An Israeli delegation including the heads of the intelligence agency Mossad and the Shin Bet security service were also traveling to Cairo, Israel’s public broadcaster, Kan, reported.

Mr. Biden said on Monday that the United States was working on a deal between Israel and Hamas that would free the remaining hostages and pause the fighting for at least six weeks. He said that he had spoken with Mr. Netanyahu and the leaders of Egypt and Qatar, which have mediated talks between Israel and Hamas, to “push this forward” over the past month.

For what? Hamas has made clear that it has no intention of honoring a 'permanent' cease-fire, or allowing Israel any sort of peace at all. Hamas has violated every cease-fire with unending rocket fire on Israeli civilians over the past 17 years. The only thing this accomplishes is to keep the value of terrorist hostaging inflated. Unless Hamas agrees to leave Gaza and the West Bank permanently, all this does is freeze the conflict in place again and allow Hamas to rebuild Gaza into a terrorist redoubt, using Western money to fund it. This is sheer idiocy. Hamas and Gazans wanted this war; let them capitulate to end it.
