Fuel Shortages Forcing Dictatorship to Cancel Sporting Events

The wonders of socialism never cease in communist Cuba. The corruption, mismanagement, and inefficiency inherent in socialist economies have led Cuba to one of the worst economic crisis in the island’s history. Rampant shortages of almost everything in Cuba, including fuel, have forced the Castro dictatorship to suspend all sporting events on the island. With no fuel to power buses or provide electricity, the Cuban people will have to go without one of the few distractions that take their minds off the misery and hunger they suffer on a daily basis.

INDER suspends all sporting events for lack of fuel

Cuba’s National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation (INDER) announced on Saturday, February 10th that beginning immediately, all sports events in the country are suspended due to the enormous fuel crisis.

“Given the complex situation the country is facing regarding fuel availability, INDER has decided to halt ongoing national events and postpone those related to soccer, cycling, softball, basketball, and baseball, of all categories, which were scheduled for the coming days,” the statement from the governing body of sports in the country reads...
