Why I'm Interviewing Vladimir Putin

Ed Morrissey

I don't really have an issue with Carlson seeking an interview with Putin, and think it's absurd to suggest that he's a "traitor" for doing so. However, Tucker seems to glide past the point that the war started because Putin invaded Ukraine for no other reason than to seize Ukraine by force of arms. That's why the West is a lot more sympathetic to Zelensky than Putin. Furthermore, Putin has spoken out since the war's start about his claims for justification for the invasion. It's not as if that information is unavailable, even if a consumer might have to work a bit to find it.

My issue isn't that Tucker's interviewing Putin, but that he's already inclined to be sympathetic to his arguments. This video offers evidence of that too, especially in his claim that refusing to consider Putin's point of view somehow makes us "slaves." I'm not confident that we'll learn anything new at all, unless Tucker really challenges Putin in this interview. Will he? We'll see, and then we can judge this project by its outcome ... as we should have done all along.
