Joe Biden despises Donald Trump – like really loathes him, like, “Hit the road, Jack, and don’t come back. Ever.” Politico reports that Biden unleashes a stream of profanity when speaking about his predecessor, referring to him as a “sick f—” and a “f—ing asshole.” While Biden’s “sick f—” comment has been uttered behind closed doors, Biden has also launched intense personal attacks against Trump in public.

In 2018, he said he wished he could “take [Trump] behind the gym and beat the hell out of him.” The first 2020 presidential debate was an orgy of insults, with Biden calling Trump a “clown” and telling him to “shut up.”

So much for a return to civility.

In some respects, Biden was always an awkward fit as some pristine savior of civility. He has long been known as a colorful character with a penchant for saying outrageous things. His 1988 presidential campaign collapsed under a cascade of falsehoods, including an infamous moment when he insulted the intelligence of a New Hampshire voter and inflated his own academic accomplishments.
