Hazbin Hotel is based off a popular independent pilot that premiered on YouTube in 2019. The pilot has received 93 million views and spawned a devoted young fan base. Its proudly bisexual creator, Vivienne Medrano, known as VivziePop online, has a large following. Pre-teen girls walk around with Hazbin Hotel backpacks and stickers on their laptops while sharing the show’s fan art.

After the pilot’s success, studio A24 signed-on to produce a full 8-part series, the first four episodes of which were released on Friday. The show is rated 18+ so hopefully alert parents prevent their eager kids from streaming it. The episodes contain graphic sexual lingo, references to BDSM, and a disturbing musical number in which a porn star is gang raped, chained and choked, among other things. That musical number caps off four episodes of relentless vulgar sexual references and language. The main character’s lesbian girlfriend is even named “Vaggie.” Not exactly subtle.

[If this show is anything close to the way it’s described by Newsbusters, it’s appalling. Its rating does at least give parents warning about the content, but if the merchandise is getting worn by adolescents, then the message is getting through to them as well. — Ed]
