Rep. Dean Phillips, a Minnesota Democrat who is running against President Joe Biden in the 2024 Democrat presidential primary, hosted a campaign event in New Hampshire — and not a single prospective voter showed up.
On Tuesday morning, Phillips ventured to Manchester, New Hampshire’s largest city, to speak with residents about his vision for America. Joined by members of his staff, he parked his “Government Repair Truck” outside a DoubleTree hotel and prepared to serve rounds of piping-hot Dunkin’ coffee to attendees for what he dubbed a “coffee hour” with area voters.
“Sometimes if you build it, they don’t come,” Dean Phillips told reporters outside of the Manchester DoubleTree hotel this morning, after no voters showed up to his “Government Repair Truck Coffee Conversations” event in 22 degree weather. pic.twitter.com/x0lpVcRSnb

[Phillips’ campaign is well intended, but completely quixotic. I’m surprised Phillips didn’t focus more on Iowa and caucus organizing, where he might have more traction and could have potentially out-organized Biden. As it is, though, New Hampshire’s primary will reward familiarity more than organization, and even the latter would have been a reach for Phillips in either state. — Ed]
