Where's Melania? UPDATE: Explained

Former President Donald Trump posed for a Christmas snapshot with his kids and grandchildren over the holiday — but his wife, Melania, was nowhere to be seen.

The festive photo, which was shared on Instagram Tuesday by Donald Trump Jr’s fiancée, Kimberly Guilfoyle, shows the ex-commander in chief surrounded by a number of his relatives at his sprawling Mar-a-Lago estate in West Palm Beach, Fla.

A smiling Trump, 77, was flanked by most of his children for the Christmas tree photoshoot — including his towering 17-year-old son, Barron, whom he shares with the former first lady.

[Melania’s father was in the picture, which makes her absence even more odd. This comes ironically as reports swirled today that the former First Lady would start taking a more active part in her husband’s presidential bid. This absence seems to indicate … something else. — Ed]

UPDATE: The Daily Mail provided the explanation:

Melania Trump wasn’t in family Christmas images posted to social media because she was taking care of her sick mother.

Amalija Knavs, 78, is sick in the hospital, according to multiple reports – and the former first lady has been by her mother’s side instead of at Mar-a-Lago celebrating the holidays with her family.

[Maybe the NYP should have waited a little longer for the explanation … and maybe I should have as well. My apologies. — Ed]
