Come On, Man

An activist is forcing Los Angeles city officials to confront an unprecedented question: Whether former President Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame can be withdrawn, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Why it matters: A star has never been removed from the Walk of Fame, which honors more than 2,700 celebrities in motion pictures, television, radio, recording and other forms of media.

[Seriously? If Hollywood wants to remove Trump’s star, then perhaps they can explain why some of these other names remain: Bill Cosby, Wallace Beery, Gig Young (who murdered his wife and then killed himself), and Jerry Lee Lewis. Roman Polanski doesn’t have a star on the Walk of Fame, though, and neither does Woody Allen, in part because “someone has to cough up $40,000” for the upkeep of the sidewalk plaques, as the Guardian reported five years ago when Hollywood’s Chamber of Commerce tried to get Trump’s star removed the first time. Trump apparently qualified then, and the contributions to TV that generated the nomination remain. Don’t take any of them down. There are better ways to show your political displeasure. Otherwise, this will set a precedent that will do nothing but generate other ‘cancellations’ to come. — Ed]
