Chauvin’s lawyers argued that their client was denied a fair trial in 2021 because of pretrial publicity and concerns for violence in the event of an acquittal.

[I’m a little surprised that they didn’t grant cert in this case. The circus around that trial seemed to demand some review of fair-trial concerns, especially in the rush by Minneapolis to accept civil liability before any of the criminal trials took place. None of the justices commented on the decision, so it’s impossible to know whether there was any dissent to the denial. Presumably not, or at least not enough to merit public discussion of it. — Ed]
