New: RFK Jr launches independent presidential campaign; leaves Dem primaries

In a move that could alter the dynamics of the 2024 election, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said on Monday that he would continue his presidential run as an independent candidate, ending his long-shot pursuit of the Democratic nomination against an incumbent president.

“I am here to declare myself an independent candidate for president of the United States,” Mr. Kennedy told a crowd of supporters outside the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

[I doubt it will alter them much. RFK Jr will need tens of millions of dollars and organizers in 50 states to get on the ballot. He had a better chance as a Democrat primary challenger. The only places this will matter is in states which Democrats might ordinarily win by thin margins, and even then he’d have to win tens of thousands of votes from Biden when he’s more likely to draw from the Green Party. — Ed]
