Bankman-Fried roommate turns on him in trial testimony

[Adam] Yedidia Yedidia was paid a base salary of around $200,000, but received multiple bonuses of cash and company equity – including a $6 million cash bonus in December 2021 that he reinvested in the company. In November 2022, amid a run on the exchange by customers demanding their money back and multiple employees quitting, he sent Bankman-Fried a Signal text message that said: “I love you Sam, I’m not going anywhere, don’t worry.”

But within days, Yedidia learned Alameda’s $8 billion debt to FTX’s customers still remained, and that the fund had used FTX customer money to pay off creditors backing its bad trades. “What Alameda did seemed like a flagrantly wrong thing to have done,” Yedidia testified.

Why did that change his belief in FTX?, he was asked.

“Well,” Yedidia responded. “FTX defrauded all its customers.”

[Pretty sure that won’t help SBF much. Yedidia has no money left from his work at FTX/Alameda, after it disappeared in the collapse of the Ponzi scheme, and now teaches high-school math, according to Messenger. That was an expensive lesson to learn, but at least Yedidia was smart enough to know when to leave. Otherwise, he might be in the dock with SBF right now. — Ed]
