[Based on the description, it looks more like they wanted to sanitize ‘Bambi’ than modernize it. The issue was specifically about the death of Bambi’s mother, who was shot by a hunter in the original. Frankly, though, this is a strange choice for any retelling. ‘Bambi’ has the weakest story of any Disney classic animated feature, especially apart from the mother’s death.
