Senate Republicans are voicing their concerns about House Republicans pursuing impeachment against Joe Biden, despite all the evidence against him.
But that’s just it. They claim that there isn’t enough evidence to pursue an impeachment and that it will be a ‘distraction’ going into 2024.
[Too late, as Beege already has noted. There’s a difference between an impeachment vote and an impeachment *inquiry*, which seems to be getting lost. Kevin McCarthy is under pressure from some House Republicans to do both, it’s true, but the latter is what matters now. Opening a formal impeachment inquiry gives the House more authority for subpoenas and evidence gathering, allowing them to detach it from the “legislative action” requirement to which normal investigations have to be tied. That allows for more evidence gathering to see whether or not impeachment is warranted. It still has some political risks, but considering what the current inquiry is uncovering already, those risks seem minimal. — Ed]
