Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi’s decision to seek reelection next year will have cascading effects on San Francisco politics and derail campaign plans for Democrats in down-ballot races, particularly the one to replace state Sen. Scott Wiener.
Wiener had been raising money and gathering support for the possibility of Pelosi’s retirement, which would have sparked a fight among San Francisco Democrats gunning for a rare open House seat.
But after Pelosi’s announcement at a labor event Friday morning, the high-profile state senator switched gears, saying he will run for a third term.
“Right now I’m focused like a laser on the end of our legislative session in Sacramento,” Wiener said, citing two housing bills he’s pushing, along with legislation to decriminalize psychedelics.
[(MIGHT be a paywall – wasn’t when I clicked thru the tweet) This couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. I can’t imagine that disgusting pervert in the House and there have been plenty of disgusting perverts already in the House. ~ Beege]
