Houston is a finalist for the 2028 Republican National Convention, selection expected late August

Houston is a finalist to host the 2028 Republican National Convention and a decision could come later this month, officials said.

The city, which submitted its bid last year, is up against cites like Nashville and Miami. The Republican National Committee is set to announce its decision during its summer meeting in Milwaukee, Aug. 22-25. If Houston is chosen, it will be the city’s first national convention, Republican or Democratic, since 1992.

“Houston First hopes to have the opportunity to host this major, national event in our city which will bring tens of thousands of guests and considerable economic impact to our city,” said Michael Heckman, the CEO of Houston First Corp., the city’s convention arm.
