Woodrow Bundy died from the Naegleria fowleri infection on Wednesday, his mother said.

The boy is believed to have been exposed to the deadly amoeba at a natural hot spring.

Woodrow fought for seven days, his mother Briana wrote on Facebook.

“He is my hero and I will forever be grateful to God for giving me the goodest baby boy on earth, and I am grateful to know I will have that boy in heaven someday,” she said.

[Aw, jeez. My heart goes out to them. sometimes there are so many unfriendly things invisible in the water that are deadly if you’ve just the right circumstances. We have that here on the coast. If you’re visiting an area you’re unfamiliar with, check with local authorities or watch local news if you’re going to be in the water. Here in the Panhandle, they’ll warn if there have been Vibrio vulnificus (a flesh eating bacteria – YIKES, right?) alerts in the Gulf or adjacent waters. You might only have the veriest scratch on your leg and be the healthiest person on earth otherwise, but that’s all the opening these little buggers need. And if you weren’t from here, you’d never know. People think sharks and jellyfish are the only things to watch out for. ~ Beege]
