A man was sentenced to 18 years in prison and lifetime supervision upon release after attempting to support terrorists.
Muhammed Momtaz Al-Azhari, 26, was under FBI investigation starting in December 2018 after suspicion of supporting ISIS. Around April 2020, Al-Azhari began planning an ISIS-supporting attack, stocking up on multiple firearms and scouting potential attack areas in Tampa Bay.

Al-Azhari took an Islamic oath of allegiance in May 2019 and spoke in favor of ISIS, avenging the United States’ imprisonment of Muslims, including ISIS fighters, and the United States military actions in the Middle East.
