ANYWAY, MOST airlines allow those in wheelchairs to get pre-boarded ahead of everyone else. This makes sense.
But because the scummiest travelers on earth have figured out how to game that system, they’re now MAKING UP needing wheelchair assistance just to board earlier. The way they got found out? Well, because 20 people requested wheelchair assistance to board one flight, and miraculously, only 3 of those people needed assistance OFF THE FREAKING PLANE.
As the mom of a son with severe quadriplegia, and as someone who saw PLENTY of instances of non-wheelchair-users parking in wheelchair-van-only handicap spaces, THIS ABSOLUTELY SENDS ME INTO A FURY.
[Me too. When I travel with my wife, who is 100% blind, it helps to preboard in order for her to navigate the plane more easily. I don’t need to do that when I’m traveling alone, and we don’t ask for any other assistance while traveling together, although most airlines are very gracious in offering it. To see that graciousness abused by able-bodied people to jump the line unnecessarily is infuriating, although Southwest’s first-come seating system incentivizes that. It’s one of the reasons I rarely if ever choose Southwest, especially if I’m traveling with my wife, who travels best if we sit together. — Ed]
