North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, who is seeking the GOP presidential nomination, said Wednesday on Newsmax that he’s not concerned about the crowded competition for the spot, as that is good for both his campaign and for Republican voters.
“I’ve spent most of my career in the private sector, and competition is great for consumers’ choices,” Burgum said on Newsmax’s “Wake Up America.” “Americans love choice, and I think having a chance for Republican voters to understand and see what the different candidates are bringing is fantastic.”
[Perhaps, but it might be better and safer to say that the downsides of another crowded primary do not outweigh the downsides of an establishment filtering process that would be necessary to avoid it. The real choice that the GOP faces is whether to go back to Trump or choose a different direction, and the more choices there are in the second lane, the stronger the first lane becomes in relation to any one specific candidate in the second. However, most of these candidates will flame out quickly due to a lack of funding and organization. The actual field that arrives in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina will be considerably smaller. — Ed]
