Police have shot a person who was suspected of stabbing four people on or near Second Street in Belmont Shore Tuesday morning, according to authorities.
The attacks happened shortly before noon, and there continues to be a heavy police presence along Second Street and on Quincy Avenue from Park Avenue to Livingston Drive. …
Vannatta said he called the police and then went over to the park to get a closer look at what was unfolding, and that’s when he saw the man get up from the on top of another person while holding a knife in his hand.
As everyone in the park fled screaming, Vannatta yelled at the man with the knife in an attempt to draw his attention and distract him from attacking anyone else.
[Gutsy move, and a heroic effort to save more lives. No word yet on the shooter’s medical status or motive. FWIW, I grew up close enough to Belmont Shore to know it as a fun enclave of local shops, excellent restaurants, and a bustling center of night-life clubs. It’s high-end. I’ll be interested to see what set this off. — Ed]
