Ken Paxton was impeached by the Texas House of Representatives Saturday. That means, in Texas constitutional terms, that the House – which is led by the GOP under Dade Phelan – voted to approve the resolution that there was sufficient cause to impeach him in the House and send the case to the Texas senate for an impeachment trial.

But he’s effectively off the job, suspended pending that trial and Greg Abbott can appoint a temporary replacement to perform the role of Attorney General in the state.
