In the eighth inning of what would eventually be a Yankees’ 7-4 win over the Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre, Sportsnet TV cameras pointed out that Judge, the reigning American League MVP, was glancing over at the visitors’ dugout before the first pitch of his at-bat. He would eventually hit a home run off Toronto reliever Jay Jackson on a 3-2 slider that put New York up 7-0.
During the Blue Jays’ TV broadcast, the cameras showed Judge making a side-eye glance toward his dugout. Sportsnet broadcasters Dan Shulman and Buck Martinez said he did it “more than once” and wondered aloud what he was looking at.
“What is that?” said Shulman.
“Where’s he looking?” said Martinez.
[Maybe the Houston Astros will have some company in the Cheaters Hall of Fame. Or maybe the Yankees coaches picked up on some tendencies and coached their batters in real time. Or maybe Blue Jays pitchers shouldn’t hang stuff over the middle of the plate. — Ed]
