Ms. Heinerscheid and her boss Daniel Blake, who oversees marketing for Anheuser-Busch’s mainstream brands, took leaves of absence, the company said on Sunday.
“Given the circumstances, Alissa has decided to take a leave of absence which we support,” an Anheuser-Busch spokeswoman said in an email. “Daniel has also decided to take a leave of absence.”
The decision to take a leave wasn’t voluntary, according to people familiar with the matter.
[Did anyone think they were? This is clearly an attempt to clean up a major mess initiated by both Heinerscheid and Blake, one that probably will take years for a full recovery, assuming one is possible. However, why isn’t Nike experiencing the same or greater levels of scrutiny for actually making Dylan Mulvaney a spokesperson for its line of women’s athletic wear? That seems like a much greater offense, especially since it took an opportunity away from an actual female athlete. Is it easier to give up Bud Light than Nike gear? (Almost certainly.) — Ed]
