Democrats and notable liberals have attempted to replace the word “woman” with these phrases to include biological men identifying as women into the conversation. Democratic Missouri Rep. Cori Bush first coined the phrase “birthing people” to refer to women during a May 2021 oversight hearing where she criticized the treatment of black pregnant women.
