The Houston Police Department passed its investigation into the former Biden official accused of stealing luggage from airports on to the FBI after new charges were raised by a Tanzanian fashion designer in the city.
Sam Brinton, formerly a nuclear waste expert with the Department of Energy, was implicated in another after Asya Khamsin saw pictures of them wearing what appeared to be her unique clothes she lost in a bag that went missing at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in 2018.
Khamsin spotted the clothes amid the ongoing coverage into Brinton, and reported the theft to Houston Police in December. It remains unclear why the investigation was referred to the FBI.
[It’s not at all unclear. Crimes that take place in airports can fall under federal jurisdiction as well as state and local jurisdiction. Brinton has been accused of multiple instances of luggage theft from airports in multiple states, which means he’s allegedly conducting crimes across state lines. It would have been unusual for the FBI to stay out of it …. which I’m sure they would have preferred. — Ed]
