[This is a tough but correct decision for countries to make, in general. One has to apply harsh disincentives to treachery. It’s a more difficult decision in this instance, since Shamima Begum ran away from home at 15 to join ISIS, which does give her case a legit sex-trafficking context, especially in how ISIS treated women. Her defense leaned heavily on that in her appeal to have her citizenship restored, but the fact that she waited until she was well into her majority to try to return worked against her. — Ed]
