[Prosecutors say they’d rather remove any distractions from the two involuntary manslaughter charges, claiming that they don’t want to be “securing billable hours” for Baldwin’s attorneys (and also for the armorer’s attorneys, as they dropped the enhancement in her case too). They also may have decided that it could be tough to make that stick unless they could prove that Baldwin knew the gun was loaded and intended to fire a real bullet — which would then require a charge different from involuntary manslaughter. It does mean that the five-year minimum sentence addition is no longer in play. — Ed]
