[Er … what? Cooper interviewed Carroll after she made her allegations against Trump, but that wasn’t exactly a segment sympathetic to Trump. Perhaps Trump’s team has some indication that off-camera conversation may have included some damaging admissions, or perhaps they have acquired raw footage of an exculpatory nature. They would need Cooper to introduce such evidence, so perhaps that’s the testimony they need — foundational testimony for a defense exhibit. — Ed]
