Former president Donald Trump’s official Facebook and Instagram accounts have officially been restored, a Facebook spokesman told the Washington Free Beacon on Thursday.
Trump was banned from both social media platforms, along with others such as Twitter, following the January 6, 2021, riots at the U.S. Capitol. Facebook at the time said Trump would be barred from using both Facebook and Instagram for inciting violence, a violation of their terms of service.
[Interesting, but may not mean a lot. While Trump has significant leeway to use other social-media platforms, he seems pretty invested so far in forcing media outlets to cover him on his own Truth Social platform. He’s had his Twitter account reinstated for the last three months or so, and has yet to tweet on what used to be his favorite communication medium. Perhaps we’ll see his campaign make use of the accounts for other purposes connected to the 2024 election effort. — Ed]
