NBC’s Kristen Welker asked Biden: “What’s behind your decision to end the COVID emergency?”
“The COVID emergency will end when the Supreme Court ends it,” Biden replied. “We’ve extended it to May the 15th to make sure we get everything done. That’s all.”
[No, that’s not all. Biden can rescind the emergency declaration now if he chooses; he could have done so when it ceased being an emergency after the vaccines went into wide use, and certainly when the much-milder Omicron variants eclipsed the more virulent viral forms. This makes it sound as though Biden plans a permanent emergency state unless the Supreme Court strikes it down.
