A review of the least merry White House holiday cards ever

Since 1927, the White House has been filling the mailboxes of family, friends, staffers and, more recently, supporters with holiday cards that make your cousin’s backyard photo of his plaid-clad family and your friend’s photoshoot of her cat destroying an ornament look like inspired concepts.

Presidents — or, more likely, their social secretaries — have presented their closest supporters with season’s greetings that are lazy (having the same artist draw essentially the same card as the previous year), ugly (just wait until you see Obama’s 3D monstrosity) and just plain weird (like the midcentury offering that looks more like it should be nailed to the door of a church).

In the spirit of the season, here are the 10 worst White House holiday cards of all time.

[I actually like the Trumans’ card from 1950. Most of these aren’t “worst” as much as they are just forgettable, although the Roosevelts glowering at each other is pretty amusing. — Ed]
