Rape victim's father: Loudoun school board members need to "resign now"

School board members in Loudoun County, Virginia, took a beating from parents Tuesday night during an especially fiery public meeting.

The meeting was parents’ first opportunity to express their displeasure since a 92-page special grand jury report, released Dec. 5, described how Loudoun County Public Schools egregiously mishandled two cases of sexual assault that threatened to disrupt implementation of the school district’s transgender bathroom policy.

“Every one of you that stood and protected Ziegler, you guys all need to resign now,” declared Scott Smith, a parent whom the Loudoun County School Board had arrested when he first tried to speak out about the lack of consequences after his daughter’s assault in a girls’ restroom at school.

Smith was referring to Schools Superintendent Scott Ziegler, who the school board recently terminated with a generous severance package. Based upon the grand jury report, Ziegler was indicted Monday on one count each of false publication, prohibited conduct, and penalizing an employee for a court appearance.
