An explosion rocked central Istanbul on Sunday afternoon, with injuries reported in what is a popular tourist area.
The governor of Istanbul, Ali Yerlikaya, tweeted that the explosion took place on Istiklal Street in Beyoglu Square.
“Our police, health, fire and AFAD teams were sent to the scene,” he said, adding that there are deaths and injuries.
“Developments will be shared with the public,” he said.

An explosion Sunday afternoon in a busy shopping area of Istanbul has left at least four people dead and 38 others injured, a senior Turkish official said.
Istanbul Gov. Ali Yerlikaya tweeted that the explosion occurred around 4:20 p.m. local time. The wounded are being tweeted and more information will be shared at a later time, he said.
“We wish God’s mercy on those who lost their lives and a speedy recovery to the injured,” Yerlikaya tweeted, as translated.
