The Golden State is looking to protect doctors, insurance companies, and contractors from subpoenas from other states regarding child custody and other court actions related to children receiving “gender-affirming care,” the euphemism liberals have given to surgeries, puberty blockers, and hormone treatments for children, the irreversible chemical and physical alterations that are incredibly damaging and that many children grow to regret.

California hopes to provide this “refuge,” as Democratic state Sen. Scott Wiener calls it, to families who wish to push their children into physical and chemical gender transitions. It does not matter that children can’t consent to these permanent, life-altering changes. The Democratic Party’s culture war comes first and foremost in the state, and its “sanctuary” status isn’t limited to gender transitions for children.

As the Supreme Court was reconsidering its abortion jurisprudence, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) vowed that “we’ll be a sanctuary” and that the state was “looking at ways to expand our protections.” Now, the state is moving toward enshrining the right to kill unborn children in the state constitution. California wants to be the face of abortion tourism, inviting pregnant women from red states across the country to have their unborn children killed in California clinics.
