Criticism of police response in Uvalde shooting piles up

Recounting a conversation he had with a mother whose daughter died from a single gunshot in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Democratic state Sen. Roland Gutierrez told host Dana Bash that “these mistakes may have led to the passing away of these children as well.”

“The first responder that they eventually talked to said that their child likely bled out,” Gutierrez said. “In that span of 30 or 40 minutes extra, that little girl might have lived. That little girl might have lived.”…

“I have asked [the Texas Department of Public Safety] at what point each one of their officers arrived,” he said. “At what point does the local police take operational control, or should they? At what point does the next superior power, DPS, take operational control or should they? And lastly, the federal government, they waited some as well. At what point should they not have taken operational control?”
