The San Francisco recall was not motivated by racism. Instead, parents were frustrated with elected officials’ failure to lead through a crisis. I strongly believe there are some serious basic governance issues that I saw with SFBOE, including:
►The board’s rejection of the superintendent’s recommendation to hire a consultant to plan for safe school reopening in June 2020, because the consultant had once worked with a charter school.
►Board member Collins quibbled with SFUSD staff over the term “learning change” instead of “learning loss.”
►SFBOE ignored the warnings from the California Department of Education regarding $125 million and $140 million structural deficits for the next two school years. SFUSD was at the blink of being taken over by the state’s education department.
►SFBOE heavily focused on racial justices issues without providing basic education needs for all students during the pandemic.
