Breaking: CDC advisory board votes to un-pause J&J vaccine

Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine is safe for the vast majority of people and saving lives, the committee stressed, seeking to tamp down concerns triggered when the pause was announced on April 13. At the same time, members of the panel recommended that the FDA include a warning that in rare cases the vaccine has caused clotting in women under 50. Wording of the warning has already been agreed to between the company and the FDA. The committee voted 10 to 4 to recommend use of the vaccine, with one abstention. The decision effectively amounts to permission for women under 50 to get the J&J vaccine if they feel comfortable taking the risk, but also an option for them to take alternative vaccines if they aren’t comfortable with the risk.
