Since Portman’s Monday announcement that he’ll retire at the end of his term instead of seeking reelection in 2022, much of the speculation about who could succeed him has revolved around Jordan. He’s built up a strong brand with rank-and-file Republican voters across the state, thanks to his impassioned defense of former President Donald Trump in television interviews and during two sets of impeachment hearings in the U.S. House of Representatives.
