Frankly, it is the Democrats’ refusal even to allow debate on any police reform bill that may be responsible for more people being “murdered.” On important subjects, reasonable people push forward with the things on which they do agree, and then come back later to negotiate about the proposals on which they differ. That’s exactly what Scott and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pledged to do, but Democrats, putting lives at risk for the sake of political posturing, refuse even to begin the legislative dialogue. Shame on them.
The problem here is even bigger, though. Whenever a single, rogue Republican candidate says something stupid or offensive, the media demand every other Republican in the nation, repeatedly, answer for it. (Think of Todd Akin in Missouri in 2012 or Sharron Angle in Nevada in 2010, both of whom were hung like nooses around every Republican candidate’s necks.) But when not just a random candidate but the very speaker of the House is a Democrat, the media leave her Democratic colleagues alone.
Whenever a random shooter commits mayhem, every Republican is held to blame. But when leftist criminals deface and destroy public property, ransack the shops of innocent black store owners, beat up passersby, and murder security guards, all in the name of “ending racism,” well, Democratic politicians are not expected to answer for the horrific violence, nor do many of them step forward to denounce it forcefully.
