Less than an hour after the president tweeted his endorsement Tuesday night, Tuberville clawed open Sessions’ wounds in a fundraising solicitation: “Help me finish what the President started and fire Jeff Sessions on March 31st.”

“The President doesn’t trust Jeff Sessions. Neither should ANY Alabama conservative,” Tuberville added later, in an email to supporters.

Alabama Republicans largely see Trump’s latest act of revenge against Sessions as the end of the primary as a real contest.

“Everybody thinks it’s over,” said one Alabama GOP operative, who requested anonymity to speak frankly.
