How a school was transformed when students were banned from using their mobile phones

Lakes Grammar, located north of the NSW Central Coast, implemented the ban in May due to concerns about students playing video games at school.

Teaching and Learning Director Michelle Smith said there had been an noticeable increase in interactions, with students far more likely to go out onto the oval or play games together, the Daily Telegraph reported.

‘Board games are coming out, cards are out and they are all interacting. We’re even seeing them play hopscotch and the old favourite, duck duck goose. It’s really interesting what they have come up with.

The ban has been enforced on students in years 7 to 10 but seniors have started to adopt the change proactively and are limiting their own usage.
