The Acosta-Trump dispute: TV or not TV? That is the question

A sage thought. Instead of serious reporting, too many media types believe it is their responsibility to lecture Trump on his choice of terms.

Trump got a similar scolding from the media for using the terms “Pocahontas” and “anchor babies.” He dismissed the latter by asking the questioner, “You want me to be politically correct?”

I certainly don’t. In other countries it’s the politicians who try to enforce speech codes on the media. Only in America do the media try to enforce speech codes on the politicians.

It’s not the job of the reporter to tell politicians which terms they should use. The reporter’s job is to faithfully report the politician’s words and let the reader decide which are objectionable.
