Top Al-Qaeda cleric is killed by US airstrike in Yemen

The US has killed one of Al-Qaeda’s top men in Yemen in an airstrike designed to shatter the terrorist group’s hold on the region.

Abu Khattab al Awlaqi, the emir of an Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) group, was killed in the June 16 bombing along with two others, ABC News reported.

‘He had significant influence throughout AQAP’s terrorist stronghold, had ties and access to the group’s other senior leaders, and was implicated in planning and leading efforts to exacerbate instability in southern Yemen,’ the release said.
