Almost two thirds of Conservative Party members want Theresa May to resign as Prime Minister

A snap survey of 1,500 Tory party members undertaken in the immediate aftermath of the election revealed that 60 per cent believed Mrs May should resign and trigger a Conservative leadership contest.

Meanwhile, just 37 per cent said they thought Mrs May should remain in post as Tory MPs warned the relationship between the party’s leadership and its grassroots needed to be improved.

Conservative activists have been left feeling let down and angry after the prospect of an increased Tory majority failed to materialise on Thursday night.
